Can anyone put up field reports of our 'good tyres'?

Personal experiences only pls, or you can paste manufacturers' specs here so we dun have to go look for it.

Continental Sport Contact2? Tried these before on 17/18 inch rims... totally fantastic when new and within use. they wear out fast! 30,000km finish leow and i mean finish... botak... not no grip...

Falken 452?

AD07 ? I heard this one you need to have spare wheels/tyres to swap for rainy weather... AD07 will slip and slide from 60kmh in the wet... dunno how true is this... is so... these are really hardcore track tyres, but only for those who have second set for wet weather...


some of these names have been doing F1 tyres for a long time... cannot be less high performing than the Toyos right??? but anyone use them before?

There are many bros whom I know swear by the R1Rs... and they never gonna use other tyres till a better one comes into the market for that price...

I have personally seen the R1R perform... must say they are the tyres to match, or beat... but the price... is premium's premium... for made in Japan tyres...

dunno how the Michellin and Dunlop will perform for their high end street )track ready) tyres. the prices i asked... not cheep...

So far seems to have not too much of complains

Tahan-able sound on E'way
Road noise might be loud on "rough" road
Handling wise so far so good on bends
Good grip on Rainy weather

Last u around 40K+ km (street driving)

Rate it a 4/5 overall

I have used a set of the ST115s... after 20,000km shit will start to happen... wet work performance drops drastically... and tyre roll noise will go up exponentially...

Sprints wise... waste time spinning at the start line after 30,000 km... no more grip


it's nice when new... yes... after that... cannot leow.

Size used: 205/50/16

KM used: abt 10k km

Personally, i felt these set of tyres gives me a reasonable amount grip.. even in dry or wet... or maybe bcos i haven much experience trying out other tyres.. only tried out the ST115s and the 512s.. my friend who sat in my car commented that my car is noisy.. but i dun feel that way.. either im hard of hearing already (at the age of 23) or im totally used to it already... hahha ... anyway im not really one who goes for ultimate comfort ... if i did i think i will soundproof the car with dunno how many layers already....

but i did a check with the stamford ppl .. they commented that the 512s are made of a softer rubber compound ... thus resulting in a better grip ... but the bad point is that since its made with softer rubber... it will definately not last as long as the other tyres.. so i sort of regrettted... im looking forward to change to the FK452...

I do not think that the 512 are high performance tyres... they are rated below the entry level ST115... to be considered 'high performance'

yes, the 452s are 'high performance' the price will definitely reflect how much more went into those tyres...

OK the T1Rs... are drift tyres... so you might want to consider when getting them... you drift?

for me, if really track that often, i will get 2 set tyres.
1 set of semi slick, for track use only.
another set of good wet tyres for road use, like T1R, F1 tec.

wet track? better not to play with that unless got a set of semi slick for wet.

reason: during track, u want to play to the limit, do not care about wear and tear, else dun track.

daily use, especially in sgp, we need a set of wet tyres, for safety reason.

there are some semi road/track tyres, so call UHP tyres, like AD07, RT215, conticompetitionC1, R1R,A046. but most of them can't handle wet condition well.

in the case of 2 sets tyres... look at the RT615... they look awesome... but can they perform?

finally downsized to 15 inch rota storm rims and Falken RT615 tyres 205/50/15...

quite new... and considered 'semi-slick' tyres... treadwear rating is only 200... so i'd expect it not to last long at all... but hope it lives up to the name of being semi-slick, and grip like hell while it's in the useful lifespan range...

will report after breaking it in...

haha... yes... going to sepang again soon... will give more than just road drive report... actually road drive report quite pointless with this tyre...

expected it to be great in the dry and so-so to poor in the wet... but will see lor... this is the 'improved' version of the RT215... hope they improved the wet grip a bit...

Been on ST115 and used it for PG...Came back tire botak...Although it is not a track tyre, but still can lah if you on a budget but not to go too fast on the corner or do hard cornering. It tends to under steer alot and had to release the gas a bit in order not to overshot the corner....

Now using A048 and have fallen in love with it...Although VERY prisey but i love the grip. Had a chance to play with it on wet tarmac on PG last dec after rain coz dun wanna waste the trip there.... I nearly spun when the tyre hit the yellow and black strip on the corners....But on dry tarmac, this tyre bites...Now changing back to spare set of rims as this tyre wear off fast....

I have been using Dunlop SportMaxx for about a month now.

It has very good grip on the dry and holds pretty good on the wet. In fact, if you are travelling at normal speed in the rain, it feels like you are on the dry road.

When making a turn or cornering, you can feel that the front tires stick to the tarmac very well and the front drivetrain is under control. The sidewall is not extremely stiff, but definitely stiffer than the Bridgestone G3 that I was using. I have to adjust the damping of my shocks after the switch to SportMaxx.

I have not been travelling enough (2000km), so I could not comment on the thread wear. If I am not wrong the index is 220. Will report back again after putting more KM on it.

Overall, it's a good tire. Very under-rated and not that expensive. Good alternative to the popular F1. It's made in Japan, btw.

Agree that the SportMaxx from Dunlop is a premium tyre...

I was on the counterpart motorcycle tyres since a long time ago...

Sportmaxx name has been on premium Dunlop bike tyres long time leow... no surprises here if they put the name on their car tyre, it won't be 'lousy'.

surprising that damping required adjustment for the Dunlops vs the Bridgestone G3s...
