| additional info on question of field report on Motul V300 oil I have used two engine oils on two occassions at Sepang: Elf Excellium Fully Synthetic oil 5W-40 and Motul V300 5W-30 Both felt good in the full throttle runs, and both stayed in the engine for 10,000 km before i drained them. Next round i feel like using the Redline 5W-20 ... just to try out... just hope all the theories from bro megalord prove to be correct. else my beloved Turtle will have a melt-down... | |

| internal wear and tear is something we cannot deteck easily. May be you want to install a magnetic drain plug, each drain and check how is the wear rate through observing the how much metal has been worn and stick on the drain plug. | |

So hav u done it..? Whats your findings..? Motul better than KIC..? pray tell.. Nope, have not try KIC yet. Nothing done. Only tried redline and motul today and the usual easy to get engine oil in the market. If really want to find out, best is to do the test kit for engine oil (can't remeber the name for the test) but i'm not technically incline to read the data so kind of put off by this mean. If megalord can be here to provide his understanding to the numbers

| Open discussion lah, nothing wrong in having something to back up isn't it? How ML write i'm not concern. But from a certain point of view, the fact he bring out is something one can pounder on. How to grade which engine oil is better? Based on what? There must be something as the baseline for comparison to be fair and eminlinate certain bias and unobjective point of view. Personal feel is an experience. But that experience may not be the whole truth on the performance of the engine oil. It is like the dyno result which one can argue. If done properly, an increase of 15 hp is an increase of 15hp. That is fact. Whether the increase of 15hp can make the same car go faster or performance better is another issue. | |

Part of information from this website, for more detail read the source.
Synthetic - a process, not material. Synthetic oil is not made from the same base. In the US, there are mainly two types of sythetic engine oil - PAO and synthetic ester.
PAO = Poly-alpha-olefine = synthesized petroleum oil Pros: PAO are better than regular petroleum oil for handling heat, oxidation, low temperature startups and higher firm strength. PAO's are not very expensive because they are made from crude oil and produced in large quantities.
Cons: PAO and petroleum are dynamic types of oil, you have to build up oil pressure and have rotation before a film is produced.

| The other main type of sythetics are synthetic esters (diester, polyolesters, polyesters and complex esters).
Esters are mpstly made of vegetables, minerals and animal fatty acids. Esters are much more expensive because the ingredients have to be collected from natural resources and synthesized in smaller quantities. Esters have all the advantages of a PAO but more of them. It can handles heat better and when burned, esters leave far less coking deposits.
Esters are static types of oils and are attracted to metal parts with an electro-chemical bond. This means no more metal to metal start ups. Which indicates that a film is ther before the oil pressure light goes out, preventing premature wear of high-stressed parts. The film created is up to 5 times stronger than petroleum oil.
